Do I have a shot as a basketball walk-on at Florida?

I'm currently a senior and I'm thinking about applying to the University of Florida. When I'm accepted, I plan to walk-on to the basketball team. I'll be honest. I haven't played "organized" basketball since the 8th grade in middle school. I'm not "skilled" in an offensive or defensive sense. I'm 5'7 and overweight, but I've got quick hands. My left leg is longer than my right, and I'm legally blind. But what I DO have is more valuable than any other trait, and that's heart. And if movies have taught me anything, it's that the player with the most heart always wins.

Lemme guess... You're a Seminole fan, ****ed that Florida just beat FSU in football, so you want to make fun of their basketball recruits in a round about way?

I'd say your chances are excellent. ;)

I was just kidding. :) Congratulations to Florida for having a fine year.

The 'Noles football team this year stunk. Jeff Bowden is finally gone. :)

Now the team can find a real offensive coordinator and rebuild. It's time.

In truth, however, a player with talent many times may walk on to a D1 team without a scholarship or guarantees of playing time. The coaches at FSU at least will coach such players. These players may not travel with the team but you just never know. Attitude and heart are extremely important. I'd say try and see what happens. The worst they can say to you is 'no thanks'.

pacers,

I think you have a great shot at walking on, didn't you see that Florida just lost? Billy Donovan is looking for overweight kids who love chocolate cake, plus your "heart" will really help. I think you can challenge for the center or power forward spot, Florida has no one there.

Obviously, I'm just kidding

"I'm 5'7 and overweight, but I've got quick hands. My left leg is longer than my right, and I'm legally blind."

I'm not gonna lie, you sound kinda like a pickpocket. Or some other sneaky street swindler.

Maybe Florida should reevaluate their program following that loss last night...perhaps a few blind fat pickpocket types would be an improvement.

GO KANSAS

No chance. After they won last year, they are getting some of the top recuits.

I'm actually thinking about doing what the OP said, but i'm serious. Although BU is hardly a 'great' team like UF, but it's still D1. I'm still going to try and walk on.

BU as in Baylor or Boston?

this is clearly a troll, no one in their right minds would think they could walk onto florida bball at 5'7 overweight, not having played organized ball since 8th grade.

Boston University.

Good deduction, iwannabe_Brown. Or maybe it was the OP saying he was "legally blind" that gave it away.

the OP has an excellent chance at being an NBA ref, to be sure.

BU=Boston U. I'm 5'7 and havent played basketball in a league since 7th (Team MVP averaged ~25 points, ~7 Assists a game).

sorry, but i think your chances are small , pacers.

wow, I totally missed the part that said "legally blind" and I also now more carefully read the posts to see that in fact no one believed him. When I posted I was only looking for the word troll and saw that no one had said it yet.

Well, I played for a private school (not all are bad, but we were average). I switched from private to public after 7th. Got cut from the MS basketball team because the coach literally wouldnt let smaller (I mustve been 5'3) players on the team. The shortest he had was 5'9. On to HS. I didnt bother. We are one of the best teams in the state and nationally. We won the PA State championship last year and were #57 I believe nationally. Yeah....No point for a short Jewish kid to try out. BTW, BU lost to St. Joes last night. The guy on STJ who had 10-10 went to my school :)

This is definitely the funniest CC topic I've ever read. What makes it all the more hilarious is that some of the people responding actually took pacer's question seriously.
