Do I have a shot at acceptance?

UPenn is a reach school for me but one I would love to attend, so I'm just wondering if I have a realistic chance?

ACT 34 composite (ENG 33, MAT 34, READ 33, SCI 34)
SAT 1420 (CR+MA) / 2020 (total), <won't send="" these="" scores="">
GPA 4.5 (W) / 3.7 (UW), 12% in class rank out of a class of ~ 570
Caucasian girl majoring in Bioengineering from OoS (NC)
NHS, Girl Scouts, soccer, and other usual ECs and volunteer work</won't>

Bump… Just don’t want my request for opinions on acceptance to fall to far down before I get any. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Why is Penn a reach for you?? And also, you have to send scores from ALL the tests you take, both the SAT and ACT and all subject tests!!

I think it’s a reach school because I’m afraid my SAT (2020 total) and GPA (3.7 - UW) and rank 12% won’t be good enough. I thought most who apply here have near perfect scores and GPA in everything. So you think I have a realistic chance?

I wasn’t sending my SAT because - for one, my ACT is better, but also because the UPenn website says either SAT + 2 subject tests OR ACT w/writing (no subject tests with ACT), and I have not taken any subject tests. But if I need to send both, then I will of course.

Also, I’ve heard that if you’re concerned of not being able to afford UPenn, then do not apply ED, apply Regular because you don’t know what kind of financial aid package you’ll get until afterwards. I know my best shot is applying Early but what if I get accepted then do not get enough financial aid to afford to attend? (what do others do in this case?).

It’s a reach for anyone. People with 4.0 GPA and 2400 SAT scores have been rejected. That said, there is no reason for you to not try.

“I thought most who apply here have near perfect scores and GPA in everything.”
COMPLETELY FALSE.
Yes, it’s true that the average SAT scores and GPA are high, but I know people here with SAT scores around 1700. They’re not athletes or minorities and don’t have any huge hooks. They’re just extremely passionate people who really are brilliant. The thing is, SAT scores are just a number, and Penn knows it. I’m not saying they’re not important but honestly, there is a reason why so many schools are not requiring the SAT anymore. It’s becoming less of an intellectual test where people would just go in and take it cold. Now, people take courses on HOW to take the SAT and get information on answer patterns and strategies.
I’ve probably met more people here with 2400s than 1700s but believe me, there are people here with all different kinds of scores. Think about it. If the average is around a 2170, and tons of people are getting 2400s there has to be people getting lower scores as well.

Penn is saying that they accept either the ACT or SAT if you choose to take one or the other. However, if you take both, you still have to send in both. You have to send in every test that you take. Makes sense?

I was in the same boat. But I just went for it because like you, I thought I would have a much harder time getting in RD. If your FA package isn’t enough, then you can appeal it and then they’ll probably give you more aid or under extreme circumstances, I believe that you can actually withdraw from ED if your decision is solely based on the cost.

I think you have a great shot
