Do I Have a Shot at Harvard *(SO FAR)*? Thanks a lot!

throw your heart into what you love and everything will fall into place.

^ I think that's the best piece of advice I've ever heard.

nahh you have a really good chance at harvard.. ur EC's look absoultely fantastic.. and get that sat score in the 2250 to 2400 rangeish and you have a really good chance.. good luck!

wow thanks to all the positive comments. ur defense is so touching lol. but i also agree with some harsh comments. yea i really need to get something that "stands out". so thanks u guys, both positive and negative guys lol.

o and also, is 2250 the minimum u recommend? that sounds really hard... is 2100 considered really low for harvard? yea it is right? ill try to get up to 2250, but just in case i was wondering if 2100ish is still ok too. well thx for ur advice!

"His musical achievements are pretty much outstanding. It's not like he has to perform at Carnegie Hall to have a chance at harvard. and to those who said he needs a larger quantity pf ec's, you know nothing about ivy league admissions."

Outstanding on their own, but not compared to the other musicians who apply to Harvard, particularly those applying for the dual degree music course. It wouldn't be unusual to see musicians applying who had taken part in global events, represented music at a national rather than state level, had already recieved performance diplomas in their instruments, etc. etc. Somebody who was admitted to Harvard this year already has a recording contract with Sony BMG. You've always got to put achievements in context.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't draw attention to musical accomplishments, and it would probably be worth sending in some sort of recording of your performances.

I don't even know why people post their stats anymore when all the replies they get are harsh ones from people who just want to put them down.

Some people post here (not necessarily the OP) just so they can boost their own self-esteem and toot their own horn. Cmon you dont think someone is that modest and humble as to ask "do I have a chance at cornell" with perfect sats+val+100 ECs+URM...

it's fun to put these people down because that's probably what their peers (notice i didnt use friends) have said to them already

Not necessarily. Some people just have a very low self-esteem and don't recognize their worth. Perhaps people around them put them down all the time because they're jealous and these naive overachievers fall for it. It happens, you know? You shouldn't put anyone down for fun.
Yeah, of course, there is that group of people who just like fishing for compliments (like if Angelina Jolie said "Ohh I'm sooooo ugly and faaat") and wasting everyone's time. That's just SAD.

hmm, no way, 2100 is still a really aweosme score, its just that sometimes, if there are other parts of your application that are lacking, the higher your sat score the better it is you know? But ya, either way, just try your bestt.. you'll be fine.. lolol :)

thx faithful. lol u have so much faith in others. do u really mean what u said?

bump bump!

Your application looks very well. I can't say you're definitely in, but you should certainly apply to Harvard.

As for the people on this board, take what they say for what it's worth, which is sometimes not much.

Someone had said that your state level music achievements were nothing because some people have global achievements. I'm against that sort of talk. I've also seen on certain threads people saying taking a full load of honors courses sophomore year is nothing because some freshmen are in all APs.

Okay, yeah, geniuses do exist. But there are spots at Harvard for those who are qualified. I doubt that every musical genius there is wants to go to Harvard. Let's face it, it's not even a top music school, those types will go to Julliard and Curtis School of Music.

It is pointless to talk about the perfect people, because there are so few of them, and so many schools for them to choose from, that they are unlikely to hurt your chances substantially.

wow thx godfather. but i still need to achieve some regional or national goals. so im gunna try for All Eastern in music, and try to get semi final in INTEL Science Talent Search. Also, ill try to get over 2200 on the SAT 2, take some more APs and SAT 2s and i think im set. Wow a lot of things to do........ I Will Succeed! anyway thx for ur comment.

No problem man. These people will certainly help you set awesome goals, but just remember these are in no way considered requirements.

By the way, I need help in my threads if you have the time. Maybe you could post your opinions.

Don't listen to anyone on these forums. I don't know whether or not you have a shot at getting into harvard( and neither does anyone else here) but I do know one thing - you should live your life in high school for its own sake and not for the purpose of impressing some admissions officers come next year.

I take the useful advice I get on this forum, and ignore the things I don't believe.

Just remember if you're on a college website, you probably care enough about getting into a good school that you'll manage to do it.

It's rare that someone sets their mind to something and doesn't achieve at least some of it.

I've been fortunate that people were pretty nice to me on this website. I've read other threads though, and some people just like to tell others that they suck and will never get into any school they choose.

The way I see it, people who do that are insecure about their own abilities.

I think it's worth applying to Harvard for you, but I'm only going into my junior year, I'm not a counselor, I haven't get into Harvard myself, and I haven't read your essays and interviewed you or anything.

im also turning into a junior next year so i feel the same. im jus gunna try my best and go for it. i wont let anyone put me down. although some of the negative things others say are true for me. i really should try to focus on one thing and go thru that one thing all the way. im interested in science so im gunna focus on that especially. but at the same time, i want to show how well rounded i can be, and how determined i am. which is why i join these many clubs and stuff. so i dont want people to get the idea that im joining random clubs for like "quantity" in my application.

haha, ya, i do mean what i said woo89.. lol, you seem really smart.. you'll be fine.. i promise.. :)

thx a lot.
