Do I have a shot at MIT or Stanford?

I’ve heard a lot of stories about how insanely hard it is to get into MIT and Stanford, but I was hoping someone could give me a better feel for if I had a chance. I have always been very passionate about computer science. I have a 3.97 unweighted GPA, 60 college credits with advanced CS classes and scored a 35 ACT. Some of my extracurriculars include a robotics team(team captian), a job in engineering, started a hacking team, and I co-founded an alright company. I also helped some professors with projects their projects. With all this, my math hasn’t been too advanced. I’m only in precalc my junior year. Do I stand a chance?

I would say you are definitely a strong applicant, because you have a very sharp CS spike. 35 ACT is amazing, and your math isn’t even that bad, as in my school the accelerated math program still only limited us to honors trig & analytical geometry (precalc was included in curriculum, not in the name) junior year. Also make sure to get recommendations from those professors.

Remember, colleges seek out a well rounded CLASS, not always individual people. So again, I would say you are definitely a strong applicant that I would consider imo, but also remember this is MIT and Stanford, so I would say its safe to have some safeties and a little bit less selective options (I think you have a good shot at your state college, GTech or Carnegie Mellon). Best of luck!
