I am applying through Early Decision to Northwestern for it is my #1 school!
But I am extremely worried because my ACT is very low… Below 25% of admitted students
But i think i have solid extra curricular activities.
What are my chances for Northwestern???
First of all, you said you were a senior at a public university - I’m assuming you meant high school.
As for your ACT score…it’s below 25% of admitted students? Meaning you’re still in the middle 50 percent? If so, that’s not low. And if you are that worried about it, can you retake it?
I can’t tell you your chances, because I really don’t know, but I think you shouldn’t worry too much. You certainly shouldn’t count on reliable answers from people on the internet. I can say this: you appear to be a compelling candidate. You have solid EC’s, good GPA, and a decent ACT score. Apply to Northwestern if it’s your #1 school. Don’t stress about your “chances” - nobody has any clue whether you’ll get in. Just worry about applying and wait to see what happens, that’s all you can do. Chance threads are just unnecessary sources of anxiety/false hope/crushed hope/etc… not worth it. Apply, be patient, and good luck.
^ By definition, below 25% is outside of mid 50. NU is not eager to admit below average applicant early unless you are recruited or with other hooks.
@billcsho My mistake, I interpreted it to mean that OP is below the TOP 25% of admitted students, meaning they’d still fall in the middle 50.
In any case, I recommend you (OP) retake the ACT if possible. But again, don’t assume that your chances of acceptance are completely dependent on your ACT score. You’re a great candidate in pretty much every other area.
What does OP mean? And I took 3 ACTs but 30 is the highest score that I got. I am retaking it on October but I doubt that it will go up
