Please read all of this! It's very important!
I am not a resident of NY applying to Syracuse University to study Journalism (School = Newhouse). I go to one of the top schools in my state (which has quite of bit of competition and tough curriculum as well).

Freshman and Sophomore year were rough. I earned very low grades (B's and C's and D's) and I was not involved in school either. The summer after my sophomore year I was diagnosed with ADD and began taking medicine for it.

Throughout my Junior year I focused on my study habits (while taking medicine). I also moved down class levels (took 4.0 classes) and the only AP i took (AP ECON)..I earned a C+ in. I earned mostly B's throughout that year.

I am a senior now and I am taking all AP classes but one and I am earning amazing grades.

Overall, my gpa is about 2.8 (weighted).

My ACT is a 26 (But my Reading and English scores are 28 & 29 respectively). I am not a math & science person and I think these scores is what brought my overall score down.

In his recommendation, my counselor has talked about this issue.

I am now involved in many clubs and I am Vice President of a writing club at my school. I am also writing for my school's yearbook while also being on debate and doing tons of community service.

I think I have written great essays along with a personal statement which states what happened clearly, without turning my situation into a sob story. Writing is something I love to do and I believe I am really good at it.

I can also get great teacher recommendations.

What do you think? Do I have a shot?
