Do I have a shot at these schools?

I'm looking at Boston College, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Notre Dame, University of Illinos, College of the Holy Cross, and Ball State.

3.82 gpa (I'm at what's considered the most rigorous school in my city)
AP scores:
us history 4
comparative gov. and pol. 5
biology-4
macroeconomics-5
english language-4
english literature-5
world history-4

SAT II's- biology-740 english literature-730

SAT:
Math-710
CR-760
Writing-750

EC's:

Eagle Scout, ModelUN 4 years, Tennis 4 years (varsity 2), Table Tennis club 3 years (treasurer), Table tennis ranking above 1000 with several tournaments played, recycling club (Vice president senior yr), started my own business waxing and fixing skis out of my basement, job over summer, essay contest winner.

University of Chicago is my top choice, then BC. Do i have a shot?

I think those scores give you a decent chance at the University of Chicago. Visit if you can and study their curriculum so you can write a good essay about “Why Chicago”. You could apply early action. Good luck!

Matrix, is your GPA weighted or unweighted? What is your rank?

Weighted, but at my school, a 90% is a B. Also, an A- is a 3.67 while an A is a 4, and honors classes only bump you up an extra .33 points, and AP’s give you an extra .67. Though my school only lets us take two honors classes at most freshman year, and only 1 AP by sophomore year.

My son had very similar stats and got into Notre Dame, Holy Cross, and BC. You should be in great shape. You fit the profile of what they are looking for. Not sure about the rest.

AS long as your rank is decent I think you have a good shot. Work hard on your essays! Good Luck.

I think you have a reasonable shot at Ball State. LOL.

You have stats to get into all of them. :)

Do you know if you can afford them?

Have your parents told you how much they can spend on your education?

Do you know what your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is?

The above is important, because if your parents have a high EFC that they can’t afford, getting accepted to those schools won’t do you any good if they are not affordable. Schools don’t help you with your EFC.

Also, not all of those schools meet 100% of determined need without loans.

If you’re not a resident for UIUC, you’d likely no aid from them.

However, if money is not an object, they you’re good to go! :)

Since you have high stats, you need to include 1 or 2 schools that will give you generous merit (such as free tuition) as back ups.

One thing to consider is your school’s GPA system may not be how the institutions recalculate your GPA, so you may be better off than you think. A 1400+ SAT CR+M is a good place to be too, although writing isn’t taken very seriously by most universities, so it probably won’t affect much. You should be quite competitive, but make sure if you’re submitted resumes, recommendations, and essays that they show what makes you unique, not just a summary of what you’ve done in high school.
