Hi, I currently have a GPA of 3.83 and after this following fall semester it should be at 3.87. I will have completed by that time 68 credits including Linear Algebra, Calc 3, and Into to C and after the Spring Semester I'll have differential equations done. I completed all the necessary units to transfer in 1 year but was rejected from the (only) school I applied to (I know it was stupid). I've only received two B's one in Calc 1 and non calc based physics because I wasn't fully adjusted to the "college mindset." I was a poor student in HS (3.1 weighted, 1740 SAT, no SAT II's). I intend on retaking the SAT's and taking the SAT II's. I would like to attend a Tier 1 School for Economics and was wondering if I had any shot at it if my essays were good.

My EC include being involved a mock legislative and court called Youth and Governmen for 3 years, returning to YNG as an intern to help run the program, an internship with an A+ list fashion designer, work on numerous short films for a production company and an AFI Thesis Film, awards for television/broadcast in HS, community service at the local temple and YMCA, some green business conference with some high profile names and some other things that I can't recall on the top of my head.

Right now, I have a really great job at the subsidiary of large consulting firm where I work as the intermediary between clients and consultants and am working to become a strategy consultant.

but Stanford is just so competitive, I’m not saying you’re grades and ECs aren’t impressive - they are. you just have to bring something completely new, unique and compelling to the table. like you cured diabetes with a sugar-free lolipop (I’m exaggerating but still)

I’d say you definitely have a shot at UoC, but truthfully I’d say no for Stanford. Not because your grades are bad, but just because it’s so competitive (what, like 15 spaces for transfers or something like that?), it’s just not likely for most people. But who knows, maybe you could be one of the lucky few!

I’d say that you have a good shot at the U of C. I got in as an economics major with the same GPA as you (3.84 cumulative freshman year) but my extracurriculars were very generic and superficial. Make sure to talk about all those ECs in your essays and how they make you a good fit for the school.

URM is underrepresented minority. It is common CC vocabulary and refers to african americans, latinos/hispanics, native americans, and pacific islanders (not asians/indians, who are generally overrepresented at top schools)
