Yes, my GPA is awful, but i am in the top 10%. Do I have a shot? Thanks in advance!

IMO, not really. From their perspective, you're a bright kid who is lazy. They might get that generalization from your GPA, ECs, and your SAT score. That's a REALLY good score, but why such a low GPA if you're so intelligent? Party due to being lazy and not caring about homework...who knows. None of your ECs really stand out.
You never know, apply and see what happens.

yep, that's what i feared. i absolutely despise myself for the 2 years of laziness that created those grades.

^yeah what a lot of people don't realize is that once they get into college they can afford to be a little lazy (unless you're planning on going to grad school); however, if you're lazy in high school it really closes a lot of doors down the road. still, you might have a shot at duke; why not apply and see what happens... there are certainly other schools out there that focus more on test scores.

A 3.6 Unweighted GPA at (perhaps) a really competitive school is now considered BAD? Honestly?

well its just bc these competitive schools attract competitive students that mostly have 3.85+ GPAs so anything below that is a little out of range

i think you have a shot modest, how has your first semester of senior year gone for you? are your grades up?

yeah i was gonna ask that... anyone know how important the senior year first quarter grade report is in decisions? i did real well this quarter, so they better weight that a lot haha

are midyear reports actually used for admissions? i always thought it was just to do a "check-up" on you to see whether or not you're slacking...
