Do I have a shot?

I'd really like to go here but I'm not sure if it's worth applying with my gpa.

GPA: 2.99 I have an upward trend and I got all A's and A- for the first term senior year.
I had a 2.7 freshman year. 3.0 soph and junior year, and so far a 3.9 senior year.

SAT: 1240 (670 Math/570 CR)

ECs: Football 4 years. 2 yrs varsity for a pretty decent sized school.
15 hours of volunteer service.

Noteworthy classes: honors chemistry, honors algebra 2, honors US 2, A.P. European history

My senior classes are:
Physics
Pre-Calc
English
A.P. Euro
Economics
Accounting 1

You should definitely apply, your grades are trending up and your test scores are decent.

And to paraphrase Wayne Gretzky, “you won’t get accepted to 100% of the schools you don’t apply to.”

One other good option that is not mentioned very much is to attend a community college for two years and then transfer to UMass or private colleges. That way you will save a lot of money and will recieve a great education and have an opportunity to reapply yourself starting with essentially a blank state. My roommate (at a different U) attended community college and told me that the teaching quality is really great and that there are many hard working and dedicated students.

My oos freshman d is a business major and in a rap. She likes to go out on the weekends and have a good time however she is experience a huge pot scene and is not happy. Any suggestions would be very helpful. She loves the school & doing well… but not fitting in and making friends. Please help. Thanks.

I would suggest she get involved in a club or two that does things on the weekends, which hopefully won’t revolve around partying. This will introduce her to many new people outside her dorm.

What dorm is she in? Moving to a quieter (less party-happy) dorm might suit her better. The Northeast dorms are a bit more sedate.

Is she a non-drinker? She might have to look around to find a group, but they are out there.
