I've applied as a marketing major. What do you think my chances of being admitted are?

I think you have a good shot. The good thing about SMU is their holistic review meaning that they look at all aspects of the applicant. Although your grades aren’t spectacular, particularity your test score, you have very strong volunteer/extra-curriculars/leadership positions. The one thing I feel may going to hurt you is the fact that your high school isn’t very challenging (I can tell because a 3.62 at a competitive school would put you around top 35% rank wise, as opposed to just out of 10%). Also I’ve heard that SMU disregards the writing portion of your SAT so in their eyes you have a 1160/1400 which I suppose is in the middle range. I’m assuming your going to be admitted, but there is no way I can be 100% sure. Good Luck!

Nevermind. I just got rejected. :/

:( im sorry for rejection is this your first choice, my stats are worse than yours im scared now like nervous!! also where are you from exactly, im form austin and really nervous its my first choice though :(

also did it come in a small or big envelope ?

Second choice, but was the most realistic financially.

I’m from northeast Texas- near Tyler. It came in a small envelope.

Okay thanks live and learn. What is your first choice? Also do you think I have a good shot of making it? Being my stats are lower than yours but i come from a competitive school ? idk ugh so much pressure LOL. :(

First choice WAS Vanderbilt, but I was rejected there, too. And I don’t know. People with lower stats than me have gotten in, so who knows.

That’s a good school, that sucks! You seem like a good person, with great qualities and potential, and intelligent ! Maybe another school will love you! Other schools you applied too? __
Okay so I guess I’ll just wait and see !

I’ve gotten into Baylor, and I love it, but I can’t afford it. $14k/year after financial aid is simply not realistic.

Congrats! Thats a bummer though, maybe you can get a job in college and pay for some, are you parents helping you pay? Maybe theres a way you can go there . Did you get scholarship ,grants etc.? If you haven’t applied anywhere else I suggest Trinity which is a private in San Antonio and Texas A&M College Station :)!

I got $8,500/year in scholarships from Baylor. According to their financial aid estimator, I should get just over $16,000 in need-based grants. Then, I’ve got $5,500 in loans.

I’ve considered Trinity, but I’m not sold on San Antonio. I might apply just for the heck of it. Seems like I’ve got nothing to lose. :/

And I won’t get into TAMU. I’m not in the top 10%.

Okay I see. Yes i like trinity as well but i just dont like san antonio as a city. You see I also wanted to apply to UT Austin ( I knew I wasn’t going to get in ) but I didn’t apply but Austin is really good city but the school just alot of hype I think.

Are you sure ? You don’t have to be in top 10% to be admitted to Texas A&M. You have great credentials, and good sat, you can be auto admit! There is academic admit you have to be in top 25% you might get in but there is like a sat score you have to meet.

You ought to look at Southwestern University which is 30 minutes North of Austin. They spun off SMU.

newjersey what do you mean by spun off

gosh the anxietys killing about 2 hrs till mail comes

At my interview with Southwestern University, they told me they were going to move to Dallas and instead they decided to open another university in Dallas (SMU). At the same time they decided to stay in Georgetown. So that is why I mean by “spun off”. It was nice hearing the history of how SMU was formed. I like both SMU and Southwestern very much.

Oh I see what your saying! I think I might apply.

You should try St. Edwards its in Austin. My cousin went there and loved it!

ill join your party i got rejected as well smu was my first choice :frowning: i cried for the whole night really i did its sad then a day later i got rejected by trinity my life sucks. im probably going to be rejected by baylor and ut dallas

OMG liveandlearn!! I cannot believe you didn’t apply to Texas A&M! You definitely would have been admitted. You do not need to be in the top 10% or even really top 25% to be accepted there. One of my friends got in there and he was top 30% of our graduating class. His SAT scores were a little better than yours, but I definitely still think you would have been admitted!
Sorry SMU didn’t work out.
