I'm a rising senior and I don't know where I stand. Any suggestions as to how I can improve my chances would be greatly appreciated!

GPA: 3.9 (UW) but my school counts an A- as 4 points. If I count my A-s as 3.7 and take out "fluff" courses, my GPA would be around 3.85.

My course load isn't crazy, but it's pretty rigorous.

ACT: 32 composite (30 E 33 M 32 R 34 S)
Superscore: 34 composite (35 E 33 M 32 R 34 S)

SAT II: 790 Math II, 720 Chem

AP tests: Gov (5), Chem (3)

Extra Curriculars

-About ten years of piano and three years of guitar (self-taught), but I haven't played competitively in either one.
-BBYO (youth group) all throughout high school.
I was the newspaper editor and I made a video for a statewide competition in the organization. We won first place in both newspaper and video.
-Robotics team for two years.
-I got about 30 volunteer hours working for a two-week Lego Robotics camp as a counselor during the summer.
"Summer in the City" for a year. It's a community service organization for the bettering of Detroit and I got about 45 volunteer hours working with them that summer.
-Quizbowl
-I have a job during the school year at my synagogue as a Hebrew school assistant once a week.
-I have a job as a dishwasher

Also, I'm Hispanic and have been recognized by the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
I also am a National Merit Commended student.

I'd be happy applying to either Arts and Sciences or Engineering, but for which do I have a better chance? I think that I've read that it is recommended to take a language subject test or AP exam for Trinity, which I haven't done, although I am fluent in Hebrew.

You have a decent shot with your credentials and your ethnicity. As for that language subject test or AP exam, I do not recall taking one myself (and I’m sure many of my fellow classmates did not take one either). Take the Hebrew test if you are confident in your fluency, but otherwise you should be fine too.

Since you’re already going to be a senior in the fall, the area I would try to focus upon is improving your test scores. Your ACT score, 32, while decent, is something you can definitely improve upon.

At this point, since you’ll only have roughly 3/4 months left until applications, any additional extracurricular accomplishments you make will be relatively insignificant (unless you win some national award like USAMO, USABO, or something similar etc.). So I would study up and focus on schoolwork, and take the September/October ACT test and the SAT IIs. You should try to get 800s on both of the SAT IIs, and maybe 34+ on one sitting for the ACT?

I’ve asked the AdCom that question before, and they said that they will look at the highest score in each section of the ACT, but will not superscore the ACT composite score. They will, however, superscore the SAT
