Do I have a shot?

What are my chances of getting into Umich?
I'm applying for Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering)
I received a confirmation email saying they got my application around October 12th.
I'm from in-state and attend a well known (in Michigan) and competitive private school.
I have fairly decent essays and good recommendations.
The other schools I'm looking at are Columbia and Johns Hopkins.
Thanks for your input.

Since you have incredible test scores and awards and extracurriculars even, yes I think you have a very very good shot based on what others have been saying on in-state admissions and test scores like yours.

ofcourse you will get accepted. no doubt.

I would think you are looking good, but really the best person to ask is your college counselor. They would know the track record of kids applying to UMich from your school and could tell you where you would stand. I am not from Michigan so I do not know the conventional wisdom on deadlines, test scores and grades for admits to the state schools there, and have found that the highschool college counselors are the best source for that kind of info, particularly for state and local colleges.

anyone else? alexandre?

im just worried that my gpa is real low for bio med engineering, when i talked to one of the admissions officers, she said a 3.6 and above is what they really look for

Yes, your GPA is a little low for Michigan - but if you go to Country Day, Cranbrook, Greenhills, etc. they'll take that into consideration.

Your SATs/ACTs will really help you. Your GPA is low, but not enough to eliminate you. I would say you have a good chance of getting into all 3 schools you are seriously considering.

thanks and yea i do go to DCD

You should be OK at Michigan. Your test scores and other awards are way above average and a 3.4 at DCD is equal to a 3.7 anywhere else. I have to say...I think Columbia is a long shot. We were all stunned a few years ago when one of the top students at Greenhills was rejected. He had ECs - sports, leadership position, great recs. With a school like Columbia, your basic qualifications are just get you a lottery ticket. On the other hand, another student was accepted last year - but I think he had legacy at Columbia.
