DO I HAVE A SHOT?

Hi guys,

I have been predicted a 41 on 45 (39 +2) in IB. I have shown an all over improvement in my grades since the first examination.

My LOR's are quite strong with the teachers firmly mentioning that I am a creative student etc.

My EC's include - Internship at Times of India (Leading newspaper in India) - Kolkata and Delhi Branch, Internship at The Telegraph (One of the leading newspapers in India), Member of the (School) Girl Up committee, Editor of the school newspaper, Editor of the school magazine, Class representative, Social Service - Taught at a school for underprivileged kids (3 hours per week for 9 months), Other social/community service - (100 hours approx), Represented school in “Green Initiative” organised by HSBC Bank, Represented school in “Global warming initiative”, Written articles for a lot of Local newspapers which got published, Member of the school prefectorial board, Member of the school choir, Member of the school annual day organising creative committee, Member of the school sports day organising creative committee, Took part and won several Debates, Just a minute, Creative writing competitions, Selected for national scholarship examination due to academic excellence, Took part in several sports - (Badminton, Table tennis) and won, Member of the Theatre club and helped organise a theatre workshop in school, Participated in and won quite a few art competitions, Write poetry for recreational purposes. [Also - Tried to start a Journalism club (didn’t happen because I changed school immediately after 10th)]

I am going to take SAT I this october and am hoping for a 2000 + or at least a 1900 +

I want to pursue Journalism and Annenberg school of Journalism (USC) is my dream school. I wouldn't even mind doing English at an Ivy league but that is way out of my League. Hahha.

So, if you guys could please please tell me if I have a schot at USC. Also, I need scholarship and as an international student, I am not eligible for need based aid, do I have a chance of getting merit based scholarship?

Please help! Thanks. xx

What’s your GPA? Sorry I’m not sure how the IB system works in India for GPA, but if you have the equivalent of a 3.7+, and an SAT of 2000+ then you’re for sure in. I wouldn’t be too worried, but just make sure your supplements are on par with your credentials! Good luck :D

Chance back?

@TodaysEinstein‌ How is someone with a 3.7+ and 2000+ in for sure? First, the school’s admitted student profile lists the mid 50 percent at about a 2100 and a 3.7. That obviously means people had lower and also higher stats than that going in. Also remember that USC has about a 19% acceptance rate, so there’s actually no guarantee that someone can be in for sure unless he’s being recruited (and that’s still very competitive seeing how good USC is in sports).

@redwall1521‌ Those are the stats for people in the country. This person said that he was international. Internationals tend to have much easier times because they’re in a separate group completely. The SATs and GPAs are lower. He’s competitive enough to potentially get in even if he were in the US. He has a really good chance of getting in.
