Do I have a shot?

I am trying to decide whether or not to go ED for Penn, Columbia, or Brown, but have only visited Columbia. Let me know which you think i would be a better fit for (I will be visiting both others soon).

I plan on double majoring in English and Bio and being pre-med. I am super passionate about writing and being able to combine two distinctly different though processes into one (hence the double major). I am also a white male in western PA and have a single parent, low income.

-ACT: 34C
-PSAT: 1470, my index was 220, hopefully am NMS semi-finalist

-Writing: trying to get published, entering a few competitions/submissions soon, but it’s definitely something I am passionate about
-Second Job as a tutor for Chem, Algebra, and Spanish
-Also have raised over 2,000 dollars for a charity event known as Mini-THON (overall, the event has raised over 250,000 dollars in the last three years and I have been a part in the event/setting up/raising money since it began)
-Teen Institute (kind of like mentoring younger kids and helping them through family issues, I love this!)

Of course, I do realize that at this level, admissions are quite unpredictable and cannot truly be determined, but I just wanted to know if it is worth applying or what more you think I could do to set myself apart and/or raise my chances. I plan on writing essays that are more about who I am as a person rather than what I have done for ECs (lmk if you think this is a good idea). Thanks!!

I think that you definitely have a shot! Your grades/scores are great and you have pretty good extracurriculars and you seem pretty devoted to them. Also the head barista thing is super cool! I don’t really have much reasoning behind this, but I really get a Brown vibe from you. Maybe cause you seem like an artsy person and hip i guess lol which fits in with Brown.

Is AP US History offered at your school? If so, how about taking that over AP Econ/Psychology since you don’t seem to have any “history” classes among your 4 years of social studies.

@vamppp thank you so much!! And yes thats what a good amount of people have told me! I am visiting in a few weeks so we will see i guess! I would also love to do PLME at brown, so maybe applying ED would help with that as well.

@ciervo yes, unfortunately I was going to take that this year (junior year), but it did not fit in my schedule (my school is still relatively small so this is a quite normal issue) so I had to take honors American Cultures instead

@vegucated26 no problem i really hope you like it there! i’m most likely applying ED as well. since its not part of the tour, make sure to check out thayer and wickenden st since they have really cute shops & restaurants!

@vamppp thanks for the advice! I will definitely check it out! Who knows maybe we will be seeing each other in fall of 2018!

I think Brown would be a good fit for you. They are really good with majoring in two separate areas, and they have no core curriculum so you could explore both majors in great depth.

@John123456789 thank you! I will definitely consider Brown more for early decision now

Anyone else have any opinions?
