Harvard (my grandfather, grandmother, uncle, and mother all attended)
UPenn
Cornell (grandfather previously taught there)
UVA
Georgetown (maybe early)
Tufts
Boston University
Penn State

"my grandfather, grandmother, uncle, and mother all attended"
Wow. You have the Harvard equivalent of the Bush family.

You just got to hope they're as influential or gave as much money as the Bush family. 70% off legacies were rejected this year.

well thanks for the stat about harvard legacies but can anyone tell me about my chances at the other schools on the list? i'm most interested in upenn, georgetown, and uva

correction: my unweighted gpa is more like a 3.79 i think. dunno if that makes a difference

im not sure how to calculate weighted gpa (my school's system is messed up) but i read something about adding a point for each honors/ap course so if i do that its about 4.45. can someone tell me how to correctly calculate weighted gpa or if thats the right way?

........bump

bump.........

Not being in top 10% makes your schools hard unless your school sends 20% plus to ivies.

doesn't matter - $$ donated?

Of course, you have a shot at Harvard. Your numbers are right up there. I am assuming you come from a very competitive highschool. The legacy connection won't hurt either.
Legacies are often evaluated in a pool of their own. If you can find out the legacy accept numbers, and academic stats, you can evaluate your chances a little better. A Harvard accept even as a legacy is not a given. But your chances are certainly as good as most kids. As Bobby100 mentions, the class rank may be a factor, but that can be mitagated if your school is rigorous and one that the selective schools know. You might also want to get the stats of kids accepted from your school in the last few years to the schools on your list to get a good idea where you stand.

For Harvard, you have as good a chance as any other person applying there, though as seen by the acceptance rate, isn't anything a betting man would smartly bet on.

Penn State would be your safety school.

thanks everyone. anyone know what my chances are like for georgetown, upenn, or cornell?

bump.......

............bump

bump........

Ill say it again, Stop. Using. B. U. As. A. Safety. Save. Spots. For. People. Who. Actually. Want. To. Go. There.

Youll likely be rejected anyway for being overqualified.

ok i actually liked bu a lot and with the fact that my gpa probably put me at a big disadvantage for my reach schools i dont think its a bad idea to apply. can you suggest anywhere else that would be a better match for me?

anyone with any idea about gtown, uva, or penn?

.......bump
