Do I have a shot?

I want to get into Rice so badly but I realize it'd be a reach. I'm from CT so that might be in my favor I guess for the whole diversity thing.

4.1 weighted GPA
2130 SAT, (800 math, 700 writing, 630 reading)
I play varsity baseball, and play in league teams for it all year round
NHS
I've done a decent amount of community service, volunteer @ old persons home and special olympics
I tutor at my school
720 math II SAT II, 710 us history SAT II
4 on AP stat and ap us history exams
for my midyear grades i have an A in ap calc and ap english
good essays

i realize its prob a huge reach but its one of my very top schools, and any input would be awesome. thanks a lot, fingers crossed

Did you apply RD this yr?

Anyway, your SATs look pretty good (reading could be better... oh well)

Mainly, have you talked to the baseball coach(es)? I'm assuming you know how good Rice's baseball team is... so if you're really good, you probably have a good shot, as you have pretty good scores too.

You have the academics to get in (your test scores are decent).
I think it'll all come down to the rest of your application, namely EC's and your essays. I hope you did a kick ass job on those.

Good luck!

Hey we have the same critical reading score! I think the only issue is the difference between your scores - but the 800 in math alongside your good SATIIs will help you. You're ECs look solid (esp sports), so it'll be a matter of how much you stand out through your essays.

btw, the comments "old persons home" and "diversity from conneticut" completely remind me of myself. nice.

thanks guys. the more i read about rice the more i wish i went ED to try and boost my chances, but i couldn't risk missing out on a huge scholarship somewhere else potentially. i guess ill just cross my fingers

I agree with you carter42. You have excellent statistics in terms of test scores, sports and academics. You are adequate community service (which is really all you need.) Your only potential weakness is your lack of AP tests. But even that is minor. Good luck!

Thanks mercruz. I dont know, I just feel like I'm not going to get in, which will be a huge downer for me. Maybe it's because the other people on CC are usually the upper end of students, I dont know, but I feel like I just dont have a great shot. My essays were pretty good, I wrote the diversity essay honestly and passionatly and then showed a great passion and devotion to baseball in the commonapp one. Oh well. I guess I'll just hope my Connecticut factor can really do it for me. I read on the Rice website the info on ppl enrolled from each state last year, and CT was a really small number. This month is going to be such a hard wait.

It always is. Just make sure not to get too stressed out be happy :)
