-

Based on my resume do i have a legitamite shot of getting in to the Univeristy of Florida?

by the way im out of state as well if that matters....

Is your GPA unweighted or weighted? Well, just recalculate it using the UF GPA Scale: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0. +1 for every AP, +.5 for every Honors/Pre-AP I think.

I’d say you’d have slim chances considering your OOS and it is a bit tougher to get in if you’re not in-state. Just make sure to raise your SAT score to about 1900+ and you’ll have a decent shot.

Mechanicsburg, eh? Did you go to CV?

haha yeah i go to CV

I would guess slim to no chance.

I wouldnt say you have a great shot of getting in, but it is definitely possible.

Your SAT/ACT scores are average, but i’ve seen people get in with lower scores than that…

Your volunteer history looks good - just make sure to note how many hours you’ve put in.

Also, what did you score on the AP tests for your 3 AP classes? It wouldnt look very good if you scored all 2’s…

So assuming your AP scores are decent, i think what you need at this point to have a chance of getting in is 3 things:

 1. A killer essay
 2. Great letters or recommendation
 3. A retake of the SAT to push your MATH/Reading to at least a 1200

Good Luck!

I don’t think they really care what you got on the AP tests for admission purposes but moreover how you did in the class.

Tzais01, what you get on the AP test is FAR more important than what you got in the class. Why do you think that SAT scores are so important for admissions purposes? Because they are standardized.

The same is true of AP tests. If you got an A in your AP bio class, but you got a 1 on the AP test, what does that say about your AP bio class?

The whole point of AP tests is to measure a students performance in a standardized way – obviously the universities cannot simply rely on what grade you got in a class because although getting an A in AP Bio might be quite an accomplishment at one school, it could be a joke at another.

I agree with you, fvazquez468. However, for UF admissions purposes, tzais01 is correct. UF will see the grades you received in your AP classes on your transcript. They do not see the grades you got on your exam until you are admitted, enrolled, and want to receive some credit.

So are you saying scores you received your junior year in high school on AP exams that can be sent to UF as soon a you apply (say in July before your senior year) aren’t even looked at by admissions? I know you’re already accepted by the time they receive your senior year AP exam scores, but what about your Junior year scores?

I contend that if AP test scores were important in the admissions process, they would require them. Schools really don’t need them until you are admitted and they see what credits you’re coming in with.

We placed the scores after AP Scholar with Distinction in the honors and awards section … and listed each test with score because they were mostly 5’s, with a few 4’s. Figured it just bolstered the strength of the classes she took.

zebes

I was always told that colleges DO NOT look at AP scores for anything other than giving credit. Admissions would not consider them.

Additionally, UF does not want letters of recommendation, unless things have changed from last year.

We were told every little thing helps. If the scores are excellent, make sure they are where they can be seen because they will “notice,” even if unconsciously.

zebes

you are the reverse of my brother, who goes to UF

he had ok grades, maybe like 3.2 UW? and really good test scores

My daughter had similar stats to yours and was rejected this year.

sorry to hijack but what about someone with similar grades and a legacy? How far, if at all, does being a legacy go in the admission process?

boozleC3, from what I understand, legacy is having less and less importance.

good to know… :-/
