Do i have a shot???

My name is Cooper and i go to a small Alternative school in Anchorage Alaska which does not offer AP courses. I have taken the hardest schedule possible, i think, and my teachers would agree.

GPA so far and raising a little more then 3.7

I am going to drive each morning to the bigger high school in town and take AP calc BC this year because my schedule allows.

SAT scores: All 650s i think, i'm going to retake it though, don't worry.

Easily have 3 strong letters of Rec.

I have already written my essay but am considering rewriting it. It is about a really intense experience i had during my mentorship in the emergency department when i saw a man die. Then it goes on to describe the conversation i had with the doctor afterwards and how instead of turning me off wanting to be a doctor, it strengthened my drive.

I enjoy athletics a lot and participating in school gov't. I want to be pre-med but also would like to dabble in foreign language, political science, econ and such. I want to study abroad or do research over years if economically feasable.
Any opinions on if I'm a good CMC fit and what my chances are, would be appreciated.
Cooper

I've spent a lot of time on the campus meeting professors and had a great interview if that helps... I'm not sure. Oh and does applying ED help here?

you have a good shot if you raise your sats just a little bit. Also, I think ED helps you a bit but make sure it is your first choice.

Anyone else?
I had a great interview if that helps...

ayudame amigos!

The admissions rep from CMC said at the last "road show" we attended that ED did NOT give an advantage in admissions. Youi might want to check on that before doing anything binding.

they say there is not difference since they are hanging on to their ED but the stats say otherwise; about 15% higher with ED; they say because more qualified but it is impossible to know.

Thanks, okgal. It makes you wonder why anyone would do a BINDING ED if there was no payoff admissions-wise.

But the rep clearly stated that there was no preference given to ED candidates hmmm....
Do you have the numbers on ED2? Do you see a higher admission rate there?

We too, heard the admissisons director say ED was no advantage. We took that as a way for them to further concentrate the ED pool. My son applied ED1 and was happy to get the early decision before Christmas. I suggest using it only if it truly is your school.

CMC is her 1st choice but her SATs are below their par so don't know if she should apply ED. Also if she got denied in December it would really be disappointing and she would have to wait a long time to hear from other schools and I'm not sure she (or I) could take the possible emotional fall out from that.

are they receptive towards international students? A mere 3% international population has discouraged me.

for class of 2011, ED 24%, RD 15%

claremontportside.com - The Early Decision Game

3% international is incorrect. Accurate figure is 9% according to CMC Viewbook. Also, the director of admission spends four weeks recruiting internationally each year, so that tells me that CMC is very interested in international students.
