do i have ANY chance at all ED1?

okay, before i post my stats, i know i am a below average candidate. but i applied ED1 anyway because i love the school. my regional admissions counselor knows me, and we've met a few times. i plan to interview. my prospective major is classics (latin, etc)

my essay was about my passion for a unique hobby of mine (genealogy). i think its pretty well written and interesting.
my recs were by my latin teacher of three years and my AP eng lang teacher who loved me, so they should be very positive and personal

my scores: (ugh) 760 cr 600 m and 770 writing; 730 SAT II lit

my GPA, unweighted: 3.77. weighted: 4.0

i have taken 4 AP's. i got a 5 on the english lang AP exam.

i have taken 2 languages throughout highschool, Latin and Spanish. I'm in AP Spanish this year with an A in the class and I have had an A+ in Latin all three years that I took it.

my ec's:
a time consuming job at the Gap. I work year-round avg. 16 hours a week, mostly after school.
National Honor Society
frequent church volunteer work/ confirmation sophomore year
camp counselor past 2 summers
language tutoring for other students
key club
genealogy as a hobby

& other random stuff i cant remember (nor do i have the patience to consult my resume)..

so, please be honest, should i abandon all hope? :[

Personally, I believe you will be admitted ED. You are probably going for A & S, which works for your SAT scores. My son was the opposite - 610 in CR and 800 in math. Thankfully, he applied to engineering and was admitted. I really think you’re fine if your essays are strong and your recommendations are solid.

wow, that is so nice of you, swimmer726. i really appreciate your response. :]

I think you’ll be admitted! Colgate admits 50% of its incoming class Early Decision. Your SAT scores, extracurriculars, and GPA all seem fine to me. I visited Colgate and you seem like the type of student they’re looking for! I’ve heard it helps if you’re applying out-of-state. Good Luck :)

I think you’re a good applicant for Vandy! High Match.

gracemarie: this is for vanderbilt… not colgate

it’s going to be pretty tough for you. good luck

I really want to give you the thumbs up because I have very similar stats! Less than 3 weeks now! Best of luck to you :)

By the way if you’re passionate about genealogy, you should research my family history for me. I think I’m related too Gloria Vanderbilt/Wyatt Emory Cooper, but I can’t figure out who Wyatt’s parents were. Wyatt is from Quitman, MS which is the same area my family’s Coopers were from, so I may be related to a Vanderbilt! If you get bored, there’s a project for you :P

tenaciousE, id love to do that! thats so interesting. if you want you can send me a pm and i can try to figure out if you’re related to the Vanderbilts!

Good luck - we have way too much in common (major, recs, scores).

I’m not applying EDI though. You have a good shot.
