Do I have any chance at all?

I am an out-state student. GPA 80% on 100 scale. No extracurricular activities. Planning to major in either mechanical engineering or environmental engineering. SAT Scores 520 Math (I know low going to try and raise it in October) 560 Critical Reading 400 Writing. Do I have any actual chance at boulder or should I try applying somewhere else. Also do you have any college recommendations for someone with my stats and prospective major.

The CU boulder school of engineering is very competitive compared to the rest of the university. I do not believe CU boulder is a realistic school for you. Sorry for being blunt, but I believe it to be the truth. Don’t just take my word for it though, look around.

apply to Boulder, write that you are interested in the Environment Engineering program (engineering school), Sustainability Program (A&S school) or Geology (A&S School). You likely will not be a direct admit to engineering school. They would consider you for the pre-engineering program run thru the A&S school. If you complete Calc 1/2, Chem 1 /Phys 1 and an intro to engineering course and you will direct transfer into the engineering school. If you enter the A&S school you can declare your major as “Open Option - PreEngineering” to enter the program. http://www.colorado.edu/engineering/students/first-year/pre-engineering/requirements
