that's pretty much it. do i have ANY chance at ANY programs. thanks for your input. I will take the at once more. I am hoping for significatnly better scores. def 1450+ scores math and reading. i dont think i have a shot do i?

oh and i prolly will volunteer at a hospital sooner or later

and im gonna be a senior this september

bump s dfgdfgdfgdfg

Wellllllllllllll

The lack of medical related ECs will hurt...and the volunteering better happen sooner..not later.

i understand. okay, suppose i got a perfect sat score. would that balance out the hurt done by my lack of medical related ec's?

No...you need Medical Related EC's regardless.

so if i get a perfect score and no medically related extracurriculars, i still have absoltely no shot at any medical programs right?

Besides which, you shouldn't want an MD if you haven't done any medically-related EC's. You're seriously going to commit to a career without ever having seen it firsthand?

i have seen many schools want AT LEAST a 1400 for you to even apply to their pre-med programs; so just hope that you get that. and i'd say you need a medical related EC as well, although senior year seems a little too late to me.

true that, bluedevilmike

My brief stats are:

31 ACT :/
4.24 GPA (unweighted) with all AP classes
Rank 2/484
job shadowing a physician once a week
volunteering at hospital once a week (about 150-200 hrs)
volunteering at hospice twice/3x a week
president of an organ donation group
other EC's are the typical, NHS, SHS, Key Club, Teen Court Program
have had a job for 2 years, 15-20hrs per week

The only programs I have looked at are HPME (not trying out because I didn't take SAT II's), Michigan State's, and Wayne State's (I'm from MIchigan).

Dai Dai, 31 ACT will hurt, retake it. There are tons of programs in Ohio, some of them are unknown to even people in Ohio. While some give preference to instate, others do not care. HPME is out of reach for most kids, it is not worth to spend time applying. In addition, Northwestern is very expensive. Why to even consider, unless you have unlimited $$$. MSU and Wayne State are good choices for instate. My D. got into 3 programs in Ohio, got rejected from 3 (including MSU, which has only 2 spots for out-of-state). She was top of her class, ACT=33 on a first try. She had decent SAT II's. 5's on APs: Bio, Am. Hist., Calc, 4 - AP Eng. Lit. Volunteered in a hospital and worked in Med. Research Lab (over 300 hours). Varsity swimming, newspaper editor, Bausch and Lomb Science Medal and some other EC's.
