I lived in France from age 7-16, so my 9th and 10th year grades don't have Honors or APs since those don't exist in France. Therefore my GPA isn't high when it is cumulative (2.9) but if you look at my Junior year of HS it is 4.1. And my senior grades are looking the same so far.

I took 2 AP exams last year: Psychology and French, and got 5 on both.
I am taking AP European History this year and ALL Honors classes.

SAT:
Critical Reading: 660
Writing: 720
Math: 520

Subject test:
Literature: 640
French Language: 800

I'm the photographer and web designer of my school newspaper, I babysit and do french tutoring, I do community work for the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity, but have only done so since about a month. I play the piano and do portrait photography. I've been in clubs such as FBLA and the French Club and have also been a lead actress in drama class.

My essay/short answers are filled with info about my living in France, the culture and traveling experiences I had (I traveled throughout Europe a lot).

I want to major either in French or Psychology.

So do you think I have a shot? Can my background help me out a bit?

but are you a french citizen?

I have American Citizenship so I wouldn’t be applying as an international student or anything like that. I’ve just never lived in the USA or been in the US school system until August 2010.

Anyone? I know it might be silly but i’m just really worried, I really want to go to NYU.

Still haven’t receive a thought on my chances? Just trying to bump my post up…

Your GPA and test scores are too low…and if you try to emphasize the fact that you lived in France and all your essays are about living in France, it might have a negative affect.

I only mention France in my common-app essay and briefly when I explain which campus i’m interested in, in their supplement (which is their global center at Paris).

I wouldn’t worry too much about your GPA. The GPA in American schools tend to be overinflated (compared to other parts of the world) and NYU knows that.

As for your test scores, the writing section is a bit on the short side, but other than that everything seems fine.

I don’t see anything wrong with mentioning you’re from France in your common app essay. I think it’s a great that you mention your origins. Best of Luck!

So you don’t think NYU will dwell on my GPA too long? I’m just wondering if they’ll feel that I have enough to offer, my SAT is 1900 which is pretty good, just the math is really low, I think that’s what you meant, not the writing section.

You have a French background too… High five!
I have pretty much the same stats as you for the SAT (1890), but I’ve been in the IB program these past two years.
I don’t have a gpa either because I have been in France untill grade 10.

I talked about my French background in my essays as well, and how I am motivated as an international students to study in their global campus and all.

Best of luck to you!

Oh wow we have an extremely similar background! That is so cool! (though I have a GPA, cause all my french courses were translated into english ones onto my transcript)

Best of luck to you as well; I hope we get in!
