Do I have any chance at Stanford admission?

Hi, I'm a senior in Massachusetts public school (the school is about average for mass). I'm Asian (well half but I always put down Asian.)
I have 4.33 weighted GPA, 5th in my class.

I applied regular decision for engineering (undecided).

My SATs are: Math: 670, Reading: 710, Writing 720. (standardized tests are not a strong point for me.)
My SAT IIs are atrocious :/ ... Math II: 660, Bio Molecular: 560, US History: 580

I think my college essays are decent? I don't know if they stand out.

My extracurricular activities include: 3 seasons of varsity cross country, indoor track, and 4 season of outdoor track. I was captain for cross country this year.
I'm in band. I play four instruments as a hobby.

Community service: none worth noting really...just played in pep band and that counted as service

My employment includes: summer life guarding, USA Hockey Reffing, golf caddying, and restaurant work. I feel they'll like the reffing and life guarding; shows leadership.

One of my teacher recommendations is great, the other one I didn't see.
Award stuff includes: Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, Columbia University Junior book award, Academic Excellence awards, math excellence awards, High honor roll, etc.

Any other information that would be helpful just ask.

So do I have any chance? Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it :)

the test scores a little weak man. i’d have to say your chances are low, but you should still apply because you never know. your gpa is solid and so is your class rank. and for the record, you should call yourself anything BUT asian… everything else will raise your chances haha

yeah I feel my test scores are a little low too, it’s not that I’m not smart enough to do better, it’s just that I naturally am I slow and thoughtful worker, therefore I always run out of time…how much do you think they care about SATs though? SAT IIs?
And haha why is saying I’m asian bad? Cuz they have a lot of them? too late though I already applied

the honest answer to that is who knows? i have no idea how much they weight those tests. in my opinion though, test scores are the next thing they look at after schoolwork/gpa so i think they’re pretty high up. thats just me. a lot of people could disagree so take my words with a grain of salt.

and yea i think more people would agree with me that being an asian applying to stanford is pretty rough. i’m one  i applied to stanford early action and got straight up rejected… good luck though!

Just apply, try your luck! My scores aren’t that high either
Improve your subject test scores though. Why didn’t you take Chinese? I did, it was super easy.

@wangatang: You get rejected b/c you’re not up to par and not because you’re Asian.

@asian75: you’re the biggest idiot on earth if you think everyone who was rejected wasnt up to par

well that’s pretty much why you were rejected. You were not up to par with other applicants.

stop living under a rock and thinking everyone at stanford is the best. you’re completely blind to the people who get into other great schools and not stanford

what other “great” schools did you get into?

asian75 your pretty sassy!

@ wangatang: yea I’m from the east coast and a lot of ppl at my school in general say Stanford is very competitive when admitting asians esp. from oos …Idk if its true or not though but I have heard this…

^ Only for competitive states like the New England Area, NY, NJ, Pennsylvania, and Texas (and CA of course); if you’re in a place like Wyoming or Nebraska or Arkansas, then it’s actually an advantage because not a lot of applicants come from those places

Oh I see. Well I’m from MI…no clue how competitive that is…

not as competitive as the aforementioned states, but not an under-represented state either; you have neither an advantage nor a disadvantage

Im not asian so…
lol

well that sucks for me then cuz i’m asian and in massachusetts

The competitiveness of your location doesn’t depend on race, but the opportunities your location gives you. There are a lot more Asians in TX than New England, but the NE area is more competitive for admission. Also, all the national academic competitions are big in CA and NE, more so than TX. The more opportunities you have at your state, the more people will apply to the top schools; Big colleges know that

Yes it’s a waste of time to speculate. I mean I have had friends with 1900 SAT scores get into Stanford. So who knows. You submitted your application! Just chillax now and let them decide if Stanford best suits you or not!
