Do I have ANY chance at these schools? :(

Okay, I currently have ~93% average. I'm about to enter junior year, so if I do really well, I can boost my GPA to about 94-95%. Here's my question: Do I have ANY shot at UChicago, Columbia, Upenn, schools around that level? Yes, I know there are other factors, but I'm just asking you guys based on my GPA. And also, does the Admissions office check your senior grades if you apply RD to a college?

Thank you for your time.

You’ll have no idea of how realistic your chances are until you get some SAT / ACT scores. These scores are the #1 thing that keeps students from being considered for admission.

@csdad I get ~2200 on practice SAT tests.

With your GPA, you should have a good shot if your other areas are good as well. But of course, with GPA, colleges will also want to see how strong your high school is.

@csdad Wow that’s very surprising to me! I always thought colleges were placing less emphasis on standardized tests.

At UChicago, the test scores have equal weight with everything else. Some schools don’t even make you send thim in/consider them because they let you decide whether or not your scores are a good representation of yourself academically.

I think you’re overrating the importance of GPA. What I mean is, does someone with a 98 GPA have any better chance at the colleges you listed than someone with a 94 GPA? No. Both GPAs are good enough; it comes down to other factors then.

SAT scores still matter …alot at the top schools. Reason is that their isn’t really all that great a difference between a 94 & a 98 GPA. But there is a great difference between a 1200 & 1400 SAT score
