Hello!:)
Here is the summary of my resume. Please give me any advice you have!

GPA: weighted 6.6 unweighted 3.8
SAT: 1950-2070
ACT: 32
Course load: have taken 15 AP courses so far. Passed all but one with 3s and 4s. Honors courses only. Three years of foreign languages credits and four years of performing art credits
EC: marching band for two years, winterguard for four years, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta, district secretary in FCCLA, officer of national honor society, president of debate team, Captain of Colorguard in 2010-2011, secretary of Junior Council. In science national honor society and national technical honor society. In interact and student advisor council
Award: Anne Frank Humanitarian award and AP scholar for three years
Valedictorian of class 2012 (have been valedictorian since freshman year)
Community service: 124 hours of tutoring in different places including University of South Florida

Your EC’s are strong, nothing outstanding, but definitely solid enough. Your weak SAT scores are dragging you down, going by 2011 CC stats, average scores are as follows.
M:760
CR: 730
W:740
for a grand total of 2240
Then again, your ACT score does fall in the 25-75 percentile range, but just barely
If you can take both tests again, then I highly recommend you do so
if not, send in the ACT

Also, I believe that Harvard requires two SAT-II subject tests, have you taken those yet? If so, what scores did you recieve?

I am taking the subject tests in November. I am an immigrant from China. I moved to US in 2008. Can I make up my weak test scores somehow? With other things I can offer?

Your best bet is excellent essays. And not just “wow, that was interesting” material, but rather “the adcom read it and cried for 15 minutes” quality - which is extremely difficult to do without some insane experience.

Oh, and while your test scores do pose an issue, your ECs are just as much a problem, if not moreso.

Low test scores coupled with lack of URM status. I doubt your EC’s can make up for that, and valedictorian with a 3.8? 3.8 is not low compared with your SAT, but it is for a valedictorian.

Can you calculate your weighted GPA according to the standard method: 1 point added for Honors and AP, otherwise nothing added, A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0. This way, the highest possible is a 5.0 (well, for you it would be a 4.8 since your unweighted is a 3.8). A 4.5+ weighted on this scale is considered very strong, depending on the school.

DanQing- don’t place all your hopes and dreams on Harvard- you are not likely to be admitted. Statistically, no one is. Your test scores will not set you apart from the average applicant- no matter what your essays look like.

You are a smart guy- pick some schools that admit people with SAT scores in your range. There are many. And apply to Harvard- why not? But apply to several realistic choices to avoid disappointment.
