Do I Have Any Chance of Getting Into College?

I'm a freshman in highschool and just about a month or two ago I switched from public school to online school. The switch was very harsh and I had to start in the first unit of every class and catch up from there. I'm still catching up in my art and Japanese classes. My first quarter report card is HORRIFYING to say the very least. My highest grade was probably a C and my lowest somewhere in the 15-20's. I want to go to Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida, or another college like it. My state testing grades are always far above average for my grade and I am a very skilled artist for my age if I may say so. I'm just worried because someone on a website I use said their freshman year grades are killing their college applications. I don't want my life to be ruined because I made a few mistakes :/

I don’t know what online program your using but from my experience Online and Virtual High School are either a) joke classes they give to delinquents or b) unreasonably difficult with the most arbitrarily harsh grading systems. If you could explain your circumstances a little more (like why you switched) that’d help but honestly having even one online class (AP Music Theory) is making me fear my midterm report card. If you’re applying to an art school, it will matter a lot less what your GPA is, as long as your portfolio can make up for it. You still have four years to make up for it.

I go to k12 (I believe it’s a program strictly available in SC?) and I switched because traditional school was unbearable for me. I didn’t care at all about my grades or future because I was beyond miserable (which is still an issue half the time). I take full time online classes (i.e. I’m home all the time and take courses from my laptop). I don’t think they’re joke classes, but they could be the arbitrarily difficult classes you mentioned. But I do know someone who graduated from k12 and could’ve gone into any college he wanted (he even got offers from places like Harvard, etc.)

Thank you for the reply!
