Do I have Any Chance, or Not Bother?

Okay, I’m going to be a high school senior next year. I am an IB student, which means I take all IB courses (for those of you unfamiliar, imagine you’re taking all AP courses, plus a philosophy class, plus writing a 14 page essay and doing 150 hours of random service)

I have about a 3.7 GPA, unweighted, and am the top in my school in English, History, and Environmental Science.

SAT1: 770 Critical Reading, 790 Writing, 660 Math (will probably retake)

Captain of the Debate Team
Captain of Academic Challenge
Member of Echo Magazine
Prose Editor of Literary Magazine
Member of Model United Nations

I am Algerian, with a dual citizenship. I take both Spanish (for five years), and Arabic (for three, but my first language)

Volunteer at Public Library (two years)
Volunteer at my local mosque (two years)
Volunteer at the Crisis Hotline (one year)

Should I apply to Brown/what are my chances??

well you’re certainly different for what it’s worth and uniqueness is good. but you’re academics seem a little week in comparison to people who tend to get in. I suggest taking your SATs again and maybe the ACT

I think that doubting yourself proves that you wont get in. As long as you are confident and you try your best, you WILL get into brown. :)

Your stats make you competitive, and your extra curriculars set you apart, which is definitely a plus. While your GPA perhaps isn’t quite on par with most Brown kids, I think Brown looks at the whole person more than do many other schools. Highlight your individuality, and why Brown is the perfect place for you. That’s really the best you can do. The rest is not in your control.
