I’m not going to post straightforward stats, because they would be misleading.
I’m a junior and didn’t care about school until like the second quarter of this year. I got a 3.4 unweighted (3.7 weighted) GPA sophomore year (my school doesn’t calculate freshman grades), but this year I’m probably going to get a 4.0 unweighted (4.3 weighted) GPA. I don’t currently have any APs, but I’m planning on taking AB calculus and AP physics next year.
I took the SAT in March and got a 1420 (730 RW, 690 M). Though it seems bad, I actually improved 210 points from my PSAT just by taking a few practice tests; I might be able to get in the 1500s on my next one. I also plan on taking the chemistry, physics, and math ii subject tests.
I don’t have any extracurriculars yet, but I’m planning on doing some community service over the summer.
So: do I have any chance whatsoever?
P.S.: I mean with early action/decision.
@UltraCola: why doesn’t you school count freshman grades? That’s odd.
@Muad_dib I have no clue.
The question is why would they pick you? It’s not so much about making some cut, it’s really more about being one of 10 that they pick. So what would you bring that would make you one of those 10? Is it some amazing story that buttresses your rising grades? Is it something else? Tell them! You don’t have a ton of extracurriculars, your grades are improving and your scores are not top notch. So it would have to be that something else.
@UltraCola, finish your junior year strong, start your senior year strong and work on your test scores and ECs over the summer. Maybe summer volunteer work will give you something to write about in your college essays? Get to work on applications as soon as the school year ends. Keep doing research on CC and elsewhere to come up with a range of schools, including a financial safety school. Good luck!
