Well I’m not sure of your chances (although you have done a lot), you can always go the route like I and many others before me did and go to a community college for two years and transfer to Berkeley as a junior. I know there’s a stigma with transfers but it’s cheaper and you’ll have a better chance at getting into Berkeley.

I always choke when it comes to tests. Even now, I get perfect scores on papers but can barely get anything higher than the class average on exams.

Anyway, I was accepted a year ago and my test scores were pretty similar to yours:
SAT I - 1880
SAT II (Bio M) - 680
SAT II (US History) - 600
ACT w/ writing - 24

My GPA was pretty average for Cal and my extracurriculars were just okay. I feel like my personal statements were what really got me in. Just make sure you sell yourself and give good reasons as to why they should accept you.

Brush up on your essay skills and take the ACT again. I recommend reading a good essay book. Harry Bauld’s “On Writing The College Application Essay” might be a good option? Tips I’ve heard; Add references to historical examples, and quotes, to support your argument, use a couple of big words (properly), and do a quick outline to stay on track while writing.

Your ACT is good enough to probably get you in. DO NOT send ANY of you sat scores(including sat2s). retake the act again and see if you can do better

Don’t let a testscore shy you away from applying for Cal. If you show promising signs via your essay and EC, they will try probably let your testscore slide.

just to reinforce what others are saying, i got in with a 30 act and 1940 sat, but my extracurriculars were what i felt what really got me in. i see that you put link crew and that’s awesome because i was commissioner for link crew for 2 years and i think that and a couple other things allowed me to communicate how much of an impact those things have had on my life and although you have a lot of ec’s, if you can communicate that a couple of them have had a big impact on you, it’ll only help. best of luck!

Cheekboy: did you write your essay about your ec’s? I just don’t want to write about my ECs and then come off as one of those essays where you can “just change the name on the application and the essay still works” type thing. (sorry, I’m not too sure if that made sense!)

Mjmay: so I should just completely take out my SATs? Does it really make my app look bad? (well I know the 530 looks horrible!!) what about SATI though?

I think you have a pretty decent/good chance of getting in. My SAT scores were almost exactly the same, and your EC’s seem pretty strong to me. Just write a strong personal statement, and I think you should be ok. I’m not so sure if not sending your SAT scores at all is the right option, I guess you should ask a few others including advisors about that. Just remember it’s a holistic process, so it’s not just your GPA/SAT scores defining your qualities in the app.

Your ACT will easily substitute for your deficiencies in your SAT score.

Looking at your stats as-is, I think you have a decent chance as you’re well within the range of the average admitted person. You should definitely apply. Good luck!

Since SAT II scores are not required and you didn’t really score that high, I would recommend not sending them. If you re-test and do better, then you should def send those scores.
