Do I have any chances of getting in? Chances please!

UC GPA: 3.7

Math IIC - 780

36 hours volunteering at the local library, shelving books.

I'm thinking of retaking my reasoning score in December to get a 2200+ even though SD doesn't really care about testing scores all that much it seems.

Yeah, I'm really worried about my GPA, because I know it's really low. :"(

slight reach.

To give you an idea - I got a 3.72 UC GPA / 2290 SAT I / very good SAT IIs / average ec, and I'm a winter admit heading in this January.

Reach-slight reach.. as stated the gpa and the ec's will hurt you.

Has UCSD gotten this competitive?

I got in here and LA with a 3.4 UC-GPA and 2280 SAT I

@tisthemorning, then should I retake my reasoning in december? O_O
Not that it matters....I just think I can do better and I already recognize the lack of important SD places on the SAT and the extreme focus placed on GPA.

I think you have a pretty good chance with a good essay.
I think the stats are there. 3.7GPA may seem a bit low, but I know plenty people here who got a similar or even lower GPA. In fact, their SAT's were lower than yours too..

Having said that, I'd say UCSD has gotten really competitive.. I know a couple of cases where a guy got accepted into Berkeley and rejected from UCSD.. Something completely unimaginable a couple years ago..

^ happened to 5 people in my class last year. (berkeley and ucla)

I know a guy who got rejected from Irvine but got into SD...weird...

i say you have a pretty good chance of getting in.
don't stress.

You answered your own question. :)
Don't worry and don't stress so much!
