Do I have any shot at Stanford?

Hi All
I’m a junior right now, and I’m creating my list for schools. I have reasonable target schools and safety schools, but I was wondering if I have any shot at Stanford? I understand it’s a very difficult school to get into, but do I have any chance at all?

ACT:30, first time taking it, hoping to improve next time!

GPA:3.75 UW, freshman year bringin it down a bit!

Good amount of honors AP’s within school’s context. I go to a Jesuit HS so my space is taken up with religion courses.

I’m around the top 10% in class rank

Also I have Tourette Syndrome, OCD, Anxiety Disorder and an LD…

EC’s:

Golf 3 years so far
Cross Country 2 Years
WWC- welcoming committee shadow program and stuff…
Eye to Eye- Mentoring program, LD kids at our school go do art projects with other middle schoolers and help them overcome their difficulties! Was a mentor this year, and will be a coordinator next year.

Tourette Syndrome Advocacy-

Am a youth ambassador for the Tourette Syndrome association, we go around and talk to schools and present about TS to spread awareness…
Also as training for that program, I presented to Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer and the rep of My region about TS to raise funding…

I do many presentations and panels about TS in and outside of my school, self explanatory won’t go into detail, but probably talked to 1k plus people.

TEDx talk on TS, this year.

Will do a 2 week Immersion trip, a social justice trip to a disability community in Tacoma Washington.

2 week BioTech program at NorthWestern.

Leadership program for a Tourettes summer camp in Georgia!(Twitch and shout)

Also working on organizing a walk for TS currently, the event will be sometime in January.
So far that’s all I have, I’m hoping to build on this and make my app stronger by the time I apply next year! What are my chances at Stanford? Thanks! Leave link to be chanced back!

Definetly try to bring that act score up! Good news for you is that Stanford doesn’t really consider freshman grades, so as long as your gpa is fine other three years you will be fine in that respect. Your ec’s are unique although you don’t have that many. I think that you have a shot, you just need to bring up your act score.

Your GPA and ACT score are both quite low for Stanford (and its peers). Try to bring them up if you want to have a chance unless you have something spectacular in your EC and have multiple legacy. They reject many 4.0/36/2400 every year.

You’re quite a bit away both from an ACT and GPA perspective. I think you need to adjust your sights a bit.

I’m afraid not; with your GPA, aggregate ACT score and class rank, admission to Stanford would be miraculous. You might want to consult Stanford’s Common Data Set, which will provide highly specific data concerning “your competition.”

Low GPA, very low ACT. You might get in with one or the other, but not both.

If you can bring up your test scores that can only help you, and apparently Stanford focuses on 10-12th grades which would be to your benefit.

I think if you can focus your application essays and supplements on your EC work with TS, you could have a very strong, compelling application. I’m certainly intrigued. Some anecdata to chew on: I worked with a girl that had an SAT in the 1900 range, and about a 3.7 GPA. I helped her with her supplements for Stanford, but not her essays, etc. for the other Ivies/elites she was applying to (Harvard, Dartmouth). Stanford is definitely the most holistic of the schools she applied to. With her stats, I honestly thought all the super elites were out of reach. But she got into Stanford. Her Stanford essays were zippy and showed her personality (whereas I saw her common app essay later on and it was pretty dry), and I am 100% convinced her essays got her into Stanford over her lower scores.

So that is to say: it’s a reach, absolutely, but if you shine in your supplements, you have a shot.

I think you’re definitely an unique applicant but I think higher testing scores would probably give you a better chance! Talking about your experiences in your essays will make you a very strong applicant. Of course, Stanford is very selective so who knows how application will go but I definitely think you have a shot!
