Do i have legacy for NYU?

My dad went to Polytechnic, but now Polytechnic is a part of NYU. Wouldnt that mean I have legacy?
I am interested in NYU, but not in Engineering. I wanna go to Stern. My sisters also go / went. One graduated this year at Gallatin and the other is gonna '10 at Tisch.

Do i qualify? Does my sister going to NYU help?

I think your sister would qualify you for legacy.

Generally speaking, at any college, legacy only refers to one's parents having attended that college.....not grandparents, siblings, cousins twice removed, etc. I don't think you are a legacy with your dad as he didn't attend NYU when he was in college.

As far as your siblings....while that doesn't make you a legacy.....it is a teeny little "plus" in that when you craft your 'Why NYU' statement, you can speak from the perspective of having two sibs at NYU etc. So, mention it, even though it is not legacy status.

I think common application asks what colleges your siblings went to, so I'm sure NYU will see that too.

NYU definately asks if any family members went to NYU in the orientation registration form, but I don't know if that data has an effect when you're applying for college.

I'm not completely sure but my friend says sibling legacies are actually very much existent.

What I am saying is that a sibling is not considered "legacy status". However, I am also saying to mention it (and indeed most applications ask what schools your sibs attended) and if you are wise, you will craft your "Why NYU" statement to include your sibs' influence given their experiences at NYU (be specific) and why you now wish to attend.
