Chance? Sure. Shoe in? No such thing out of state.

i agree with theslammer... write good essays and u'll be in

You have an okay shot.

your sat scores put you at the 75% for incoming students (it was 1490 for this years 1st years) but your GPA is below the average. Being OOS and not in the top 10% hurts you I would think (87% in top 10% last year) - and you have okay EC's - nothing to write home about i guess.

like sahil said, write good essays and i think you'll be competitive - but i if i had to guess right now i'd say you'd be wait listed.

what is the average gpa at uva? how far below average am i?

also about class rank, my school does not send out rankings but rather seperates the grade into five or so levels. i remember in 2005 the cutoff for the top tier was 3.9 weighted so i would definitely be in the top if the system has stayed the same. of course im worried though because with almost 20 students around or above my gpa the guidance office may decide to seperate out another level which would probably place me in the second highest.

83% of the students who enrolled in the class of 2009 had at least an unweighted GPA of 3.75 - which you put you barely above there.

If your school divides your class into quintiles - I guess you would be in the top quintile.
