Do I have to let colleges know about this schedule change?

I said on the common app (which I completed in Sept or Oct) that I was going to take AP economics 2nd semester but decided at the end of 1st semester that I didn't want to add another AP class so I switched to regular.

I'm taking the same number of APs I was first semester (I took regular government 1st semester) and economics isn't going to be my major (I'm undecided but I'm more interested in art, languages, history, etc)...

so is it important that I let colleges know that though I indicated I'd be taking AP on the common app I'm taking regular instead now? or is it no big deal? my counselor and my parents said they don't think I need to let them know but when I've asked on CC people say I need to let them know asap...

I just don't want not telling them (or telling them if I don't need to) to affect my chances of admission since Economics really is just a credit I have to get and has nothing to do with my actual academic interests...what should I do? Are there some colleges that require you tell them and some that don't? because I applied to like 12 schools and I don't know how to check this.

please, please help me out with this! I'm so scared that it is a problem and I'm not getting straight answers about whether i need to notify my colleges from anybody so it's freaking me out!

thanks!

Yes, you do need to notify colleges of your schedule change. Just send them a quick e-mail with your new class and what it replaced.

I agree with physicsnut that you should let them know. i doubt they will view this as a big deal, but it is always prudent to err on the side of honesty and transparency.
No need to freak out. Just send out the email to all of your schools and relax.

okay, many thanks to both of you!
