do i have to pay the application fee?

I'm from a low-income family. So,do i still have to pay the application fee when i apply to colleges.(and register for the standardized exams)

Call the college or ask your conselour. You would have to apply for an application fee waiver/

Well, it depends how low you’re income is. If you qualify for the federal definition of low-income (150% of the federal poverty line or less), you can get fee waivers for standardized tests for the SAT and the ACT and application fee waivers from Collegeboard and NACAC. Your school counselor will handle all of these waivers. Some colleges, like Yale, allow you to apply for an application waiver through them by asking for a letter stating your income, extenuating circumstances, etc.

You should go directly to your counselor with this one. If, by chance, they aren’t able to help you just PM me. I’ve gone through the process and saved a lot of money.

In addition to going to GC, ask him/her if there are community funds available for this sort of thing. My city has a “community chest” of money that helps in situations just like yours – if you miss out on qualifying for the individual colleges’ waiver threshold.

Good luck to you.
