I've taken 5 AP exams and passed them all so should I submit them and how do i send them? Will it make a difference?

No don’t submit them now. You submit them after you’ve decided where you want to go. Sending it to all the schools you applied to won’t make a difference in admissions unless asked to self report. But either way you only send the official score report after you’ve accepted a schools offer

There are schools that will use AP scores as part of their admissions decisions (such as Colorado College for example but only if you direct them to consider them). If you are applying to a school that considers your AP scores in their admissions process you will want your HS to fax/send your scores if it has them on file (my D’s HS automatically includes AP scores on student transcripts). If your HS doesn’t have a record of your AP scores you can have the College Board send an official AP score report but that is more expensive and not necessary if the HS can send them.

Bottom line is that many colleges don’t need AP scores to be reported other than on the common app but if you did really well on APs (4s and 5s) it is worth making sure your colleges know you did well. Hopefully your HS can help you out with reporting (beyond just the self reporting on the common app).

Most schools accept self-reported scores on the Common App - whether or not they have any bearing on admissions is another question that varies by school. Often the grade in the class is more important, which is why self-studied APs are worth less than many people think.

Just make sure any score you report will match up with any officially reported score upon matriculation - misreporting scores is grounds for revoking your admission even if it wasn’t a factor in admissions.

^^Yes but if a school specifically says they consider your AP scores (along with or in lieu of other standardized tests) you want to do more than self report in order for the school to “officially” consider them. They would need your HS to report scores directly to them, if your HS has them, or they would need you to send an official AP score report from the College Board.

I would check with the school in that case. If they want an “official” report, then send it in, but most schools, even Ivies, do not. They accept self-reported APs, only ACT/SAT and SAT IIs need official scores. There is no point in incurring yet one more expense when you don’t have to.
