Hi, I’m a senior currently applying to colleges. I self-reported my AP scores on the Common App for admissions purposes. However, I don’t want to send my official score reports to colleges once I enroll because I want to take the introductory classes. If I self-report AP scores, do I HAVE to send my official score reports to the college I enroll in?
I wouldn’t worry about it until after being admitted, and it will depend on the specific school. But even if they request them to validate your application, it’s highly unlikely they are going to force you to take advanced placement.
My D and several classmates took both intro Calc and Physics at their T10 engineering school, despite having taken Calc BC and Physics C - many folks warned them that AP courses weren’t really equivalent. And they weren’t.
She heard this advice at other schools where she did overnights during the admissions process.
Allowing you to self-report or getting test scores from your HS transcript are ways to help applicants save money. The college will let you know if they want official reports prior to admittance. If they do request them, it is more likely because they are verifying your application than because they want to bump you up to a a higher level class.
At my D’s school, they wanted all official scores but it was up to the student if they wanted to take the credits and skip. I don’t think any school is going to make you skip a class if you aren’t comfortable.
I agree. Every school I’ve ever looked at allows students to forgo the AP credit by taking the corresponding college class. But @RichInPitt is correct; it is waaay to early to dwell on this. Revisit the question after you’ve been accepted.
