Do I HAVE to send SAT scores through CollegeBoard?

I talked to my counselor about this one, but I'm still a little worried. I'm not sending any of my SAT scores to Stanford (EA) through CollegeBoard; my school has a "test score sheet" that they send out. Should I also send out the ones from CB, or is the score sheet from my school enough? I'm really worried because the deadline is so close and even if I send them through CB now, it might not be in time.

From the CA:

"The official scores from the appropriate testing agency must be submitted to each institution as soon as possible. "

What your HS sends is not "official", only the CB can send "official" scores.

Yes, entomom has it correct. An official score is a score from the organization that gave you the test. That's what colleges expect to see from applicants.

From the Stanford instructions to the application:

[quote]
Please note: Applicants are required to report all SAT
and ACT test scores. Your official test results must reach
Stanford no later than November 1 for Restrictive Early
Action, January 1 for Regular Decision, or March 15 for
Transfer. We cannot accept photocopies or student-reported
scores as official.

You must send the official scores. Sorry.

Aragh, okay, thanks for the help, guys. Do you guys happen to know if Stanford accepts rush reporting?

docotopi,
I think its best to go ahead and use rush scores. IF it doesnt get there by Nov 1 you'll be out of luck, so you really have nothing to lose by sending the scores rush from CB. Good luck.

i wouldnt fret over it, really. You probably wont get in anyways.

^ really uncalled for.

Yea, I know.

Who did you send your SAT scores to when you registered for it? If you put Stanford down as one of the recipients they'd have your scores already, even if it was a year or two ago.

Where the scores from the most recent test went depend on how the test-taker registered for the most recent test. Each test registration resets the list of test recipients. It's possible that the OP didn't designate ANY score recipients the last time he/she took the SAT. (It's not clear to me from this thread when heshe last took the test, or whether he has ever designated a score recipient for any test.)

I agree that the moral of the story is to always send scores to your favorite schools each time you register for the SAT. At the very least, never waste the four free score reports you get each time you register for the test.

I didn't put any colleges on the recipient list because I've always assumed that what my school sends out is adequate... that's what I've been told at least... apparently not.

I've just ordered my scores to be rushed to Stanford, think they'll arrive in time for SCEA?

It is your responsibility to know what each of the colleges you're considering requires. No GC can possibly keep every school's requirements straight. You may want to double-check the rest of your schools to see what they want.

This is part of taking charge of your life, and you'll be expected to manage these kinds of details on a regular basis in college.

It will take Stanford a couple of weeks to get everyone's various application pieces assembled into files ready for review. Most schools also let you know if someting crucial is missing. Scores should get there (rushed or not) in time for review.
