Hi guys,
so Pomona is my TOP TOP TOP choice I want to go there SO BADLY and I'm pretty sure I'm applying ED.
For the sake of full disclosure, I got a 650 on my math SAT, but am planning on taking it again to see if i can get a 700.
According to Pomona's website, "four years mathematics...(year of calculus is highly recommended)"
Let's just say that math is NOT my strong suit. I signed up for Calculus AB anyway, and was going to take that and then Psychology instead of an Advanced science (sciences are not my thing either, i'm a humanities gal and they don't offer AP Psych at my school) to allow myself more flexibility so I can have extra time to work on my Calculus.

I could also possibly take AP Statistics and Adv. Physics together. I know that to most schools this would look okay, but I'm really worried that pomona won't accept me if I don't take Calculus.
I'm pretty sure that i won't be able to get above a B/B+ in Calculus, but I could probably get an A in Statistics.
WHAT SHOULD I DO???
any input would be greatly appreicated, thanks so much!

I wouldn’t stress too much over your decision, however, I assume you are a senior now? If so, Pomona is mainly interested in what courses you are taking to see if you are challenging yourself, so I wouldn’t worry about your grades as much as before…especially with calculus, which colleges know is a real pain in the ass. Also, you’ll probably want to have taken some calculus in High School, because having a background in it makes life a lot easier in college.

I went to Pomona, and was not very good at math in high school. In fact, compared to many of my fellow sage hens, my grades were kind of low. But because my application shined in other ways I got in, and did very well at Pomona (I even discovered I DO like math).

Getting into Pomona can feel like a numbers game, but they’re MUCH more interested in who YOU are, not who your GPA says you are.

That said, AP Stats is a great class and I’m really glad I took it : )

You got a 650 on your math SAT. That’s a good score! You obviously have math ability. If you are diligent (which I am sure you will be), do all the problems and maybe extra, stay up on the concepts, utilize your teacher, I am confident you can get an A in Calc AB.
