I'm an incoming freshman and will be going to orientation in a few weeks. I got my AP scores last week and got a 3 on the AP Calculus AB exam. By the way, I'm in the College of Letters and Science and I'm majoring in chemistry.

I’m not sure, but most likely you do. My 3 in AP Calc didn’t count for anything for me and I had to take the placement as well. However, I did have a different major and took a different math series than you will take.

Looking at the registrar it looks like you do need to take it. You need a 36 or better in order to register into Math 31a.

The placement test is really easy though so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I think it needs score 4 to waive the math placement test.

Naw, I’m sure a 3-4 is the same thing for AP Calc AB.
A 4-5 is what’s needed if you took AP Calc BC.

@OP: because you didn’t get credit for Math 31A with your score of a 3 on the AB exam, you’ll need to take the math placement test at orientation.

I don’t know your major. But mine clearly says calc AB 4 or 5 can go next level calc.

lol I said in my first post that I’m majoring in chem.

UCLA2014 thanks! That’s all I needed to know :)
