I have been in US for about 8 years now and even though I dont have citizenship and english isnt my first language, do I still have to take TOEFL?

Though you need to check with each college, usually if you do high school in the US, you do not have to submit Toefl even if you are a citizen of a foreign country where English is not the main language. A typical rule of many US colleges is that if you complete your last two years in high school here that will satisfy any English proficiency requirement. But again check with those particular colleges you will be applying to to make sure.

i think it's more than 4 years...but i think if u have been in the states for 8 years...ur english should be very solid!

well my english is pretty solid but its still not my 1st language. and when my sis applied for georgia tech, she found out they required her to take TOEFL

some schools will waive it if you get a certain sat score, but it depends on college

It does depend on colleges, always ask them. If nothing else, it'll get you contact points with the college.

Usually even if they require it for non-native speakers, like celebrian said, they'll waive it with the right scores. A high verbal/writing SAT or AP English test scores will usually do the trick. At least in my case, the combination of the two was enough to send all shadows of TOEFL scampering.
