Do I have to take writing on ACT twice if applying to Minnesota?

I read on their website they only take highest ACT score from a single sitting. I also read that they require ACT writing.

Here are my ACT scores from my first test:

Composite: 30
English: 34
Math: 28
Reading: 27
Science: 31
Writing: 9/12
English/Writing: 32

I want to improve my composite along with reading and math in October of senior year, but I did not sign up for writing. Because they only look at the best test from one sitting, do I need to take the ACT writing again?

@Pho98, from the UMN admissions website:

“The University of Minnesota Twin Cities requires a writing score from at least one test date. If you have already registered but you need to add the writing exam, call ACT at 319-337-1270.”

http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/admissioninfo/fresh_writing.html

You can call and ask but it sounds like if you submit both a writing test and a non-writing test they would still take your highest composite score, and then the writing score from your first test. Definitely call and make sure of this, however.

This issue was addressed on a recent thread:

Good luck!

Hi everyone.

Just putting here for future reference. I emailed UMN and they confirmed that they do not require writing to be taken twice.

They will take your highest ACT composite score from one test and then your highest writing from another test. No need to take writing twice if you are satisfied.

Also, the thread that Mamelot linked stated this as well, I just forgot to read through the whole thing.

Thank you for the help. Everyone at college confidential has been a substantial help to me!
