Do I have to wait over a year?

Hi All,

I'm looking to get into a Master's program for Finance, and was wondering...

Do master's programs ONLY allow students to begin their major one whole year after they've applied?

From what I understand, for the average Master's Program, the earliest I can apply is Fall 2013, and if accepted, the earliest I'd be able to start would be Fall 2014!

Is there any way I can begin a masters program earlier than Fall of 2014?

Do any schools allow this?

If so, can you name a couple?

Best,
TC

There are some, my school (Illinois Institute of Technology) for example which admit for Spring terms although the bulk of the students start in the Fall. You need to look for schools where the program is large enough that courses are offered every semester so students can start at any time.

If you have already completed your B.S. program, you might even find some programs that have rolling admissions for Fall 2013 still now (U.S. residents only). Not all these programs might be what you are looking for in terms of quality so look at the programs carefully and balance starting date with quality of program and whether it meets your needs.

I’ve never heard of having to wait years to start a masters program. I guess it just depends on the school and maybe the subject area. My sister graduated in December and started her Masters in May at Southern Polytechnic State University.

^Your sister probably applied to a May-start program. Most programs are fall (August/September-start) programs, and the latest deadlines for those schools are usually in April, although a few scattered ones may have some as late as June.

There are many schools that have spring start for admissions, though - you can apply sometime between September and November and be admitted for the spring of 2014.

Baruch College (MBA and MS in finance)
Louisiana State University
Washington University in St. Louis (they also have rolling admissions now)
Weatherhead at Case Western is currently accepting applications for rolling admissions to their fall 2013 program.
Pepperdine has spring admissions

If you look around some more and use Google I’m sure you’ll find some more programs.
