Do I have what it takes to get accepted into Tulane?

I’m a LA resident, and last year, guaranteed admission was to have a 30 ACT and a 3.6 GPA. They changed it now to an ACT score of 31+.
Right now, I (hs jr) have:
ACT: 28
GPA: 3.98/4.56
Clubs: NHS (10-11), NHHS (10-11), NAHS (9-11), Student Council (9-11)l, Special Needs Club (9-11; group leader 11), Key Club (11), Quizbowl (9-11) I don’t have many, but I have committed myself and worked hard in the clubs I’ve been in
AP courses (current): APUSH, AP English II, AP Bio II (our school only has 7 AP courses)
Gifted and honors: basically every course except for electives
Awards: 3rd place in LA State piano competition, various awards in district piano competitions, A honor roll, etc. (I have committed to piano since I was 5 {17 right now} and have competed since first grade)
Volunteer Work: 120+ hours at Tulane Hospital Summer Volunteering Program, community service work with Key Club and Student Council, Tutor for math and science students at school on some Saturdays
Job Experience: Summer job at a music summer camp

Note that I am still a junior, and I am getting a job over this summer and will be attending internship programs next year as a senior. I will also be volunteering at more places and take 3 more AP courses (Calc, World H., Eng III). As of right now, I am most stressed about my ACT score. I have taken it four times (once as a freshman so I don’t really count that), and I think I will be taking it 3 more times before applying to Tulane’s ED.
My dad also works with the university, and I heard employee kids have kind of a “perk???” I don’t really know much about employee children having it easy to get into a school… if you know anything about this please let me know

@collegestressor While you have taken the ACT several times, have you ever considered taking the SAT instead? It’s a different type of exam and some students show a preference for it. Being a LA resident provides the extreme advantage of “Guaranteed admission”. You would certainly still have a chance without guaranteed admission.

@DebmomNY I have not considered SAT since everyone has said that is is longer and harder than the ACT ??? I did want to take it just to see, but I do think it’s a bit late to start reviewing and studying for it. I’ve been using ACT prep online for a month now, so I might as well get ready for that test only.

the good thing about the SAT in tulane’s case is that they superscore it. they don’t superscore the ACT. if you were to achieve a superscored composite of 1450 on the SAT, would that guarantee you admission?

** also, keep in mind guaranteed admission only applies for early decision.

Tulane considers demonstrated interest, so make sure you register and take a campus tour and have a very good “why Tulane” essay, which I imagine you will given your dad works there!

@kalons ED is the only route I’m going for when I apply. I’ve been wanting to go to Tulane since I was a little girl, so it kinda would be devastating if I was rejected
@itsmegina I’ve already toured campus over the summer, and I’ll probably go visit again over the summer and for one of the excused college tour days that my school gives the students. hopefully, my dedication to this school will be helpful.

Take the ACT again. Your GPA is great, but the ACT is too low.

@hoosierdaddy18 Update: I got a 28 in Feb., and my district scores came in today… I got.a 30. Do you think that will give me a better chance?

UPDATE: took the district test and I now have a 30. Should I take it again?

That’s great news! This is a great reason to contact your admissions counselor, express your interest and ask if you should retake the exam

Congrats on getting to 30. That will definitely help. Good luck!
