Do I have what it takes to get into FSU?

I just finished my junior year of high school. Even since my freshman year of high school I have kept my gpa very high, unweighed it varied between a 3.6-3.9. Weighted it was always somewhere in the low 4.0s. However, my last semester of junior year was terrible. I got two 79s, on in Chem honors and one in AP US History. My unweighted gpa is now a 3.5 and my unweighted is a 3.8. My SAT score is 1150 but I am planning on retaking it and superscoring it. I am a member of four clubs, one of which I am a president of. I also have a pretty killer essay that I’m currently writing that I think will really help. I am also applying to start in the summer because I know my chances of getting in are higher that way. But will it be enough? I felt like I was on the fence before but now that my gpa has gone down so low I don’t think I will get in. Are my chances still high enough that I could work my ass off and get in? Or should I pretty much be prepared to go into my second choice (UNF)? And if I still have a chance what do I need to do?

I think you should try taking the ACT. You may perform much better on it than the SAT. My GPA wasn’t perfect when I was admitted my senior year (3.73 weighted) so it’s not impossible for you. Take a look at the average admitted student profiles on https://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/WWLF/

Thank you so much!! I think I’ll focus on taking the ACT but also retaking the SAT and crossing my fingers that I’ll do much better on it. I’ve printed out many SAT and ACT practice forms online and I tend to always do better on the SATs. The science part of the ACT always throws me off. But it’s really good to hear you got in with your 3.73 gpa! I’ve been stressing about the gpa factor so much, so it’s good to hear I can chill out on that and focus on the other factors. Thank you again!

Like the person above said, try the SAT. I start at FSU this fall and got in with a 3.6 unweighted, 4.2 weighted, 1150 SAT and 26 ACT. Definitely apply for early action as it increases your chances of getting in. The university will also review your first semester grades of senior year before your decision day. Universities also don’ only focus on grades and test scores, they want to see who you are as a person and what you can contribute to the school!
