xiggi and others, (I suspect) are wondering why a 2400 SAT rowing kid at a private DC Day school, with 88 seniors, president and captain of everything (with no prior posting history) would be making a post that so mimics the format of many other users (i.e. you’re likely not a new to this site) and asks such a eye-grabbing title “Do I have what it takes to get into Harvard?” – because certainly your private DC Day school guidance counselors and teachers haven’t given you a clue, right?

Let’s just say that similar posts like this usually have been feeble attempts to pull peoples’ legs.

“Please chance me, I’ll chance you back” Ummm. No thanks

@T26E4 I had a hunch this thread was nothing more than a sham but regardless, still gave OP the benefit of the doubt. I would assume this was intended to subtly mock those of us who haven’t accomplished anything on the magnitude of curing cancer before age 18…

This was most likely the same guy who (using a different account) inquired his chances at Harvard for the RD round given his standout profile: a 2.7 GPA, 21 ACT, an unrivaled passion for video games, and a strong political opposition to women’s rights. As per his account, this made him something of a “slam-dunk”. It’s shame the thread was removed… Funny stuff!

There are a lot of people playing the “humble boast” game. They post their actual achievements and hope to generate loads of praise. They don’t start with any uncertainty about their qualifications-they already think they are great before they ask for feedback from CC posters. But their claims of uncertainty are not genuine. In fact, many are shocked when they don’t get into the Superstar school they figured they were a shoe in for. Can 't say if this is true here but it is pervasive on this site.
