Do I have what it takes to get into Penn?

I've posted about admissions on other forums before, but I've never really received an answer about Penn. To start, I'm a senior, Indian, male from West Virginia (I doubt if that would help me any) looking to go pre-med at SEAS or CAS. My UW GPA is low (3.75) due to some problems during my freshman year. I received a 3.86 both semesters soph year and 4.00 both semesters junior year while taking the hardest courseload available (5 APs junior year and 2 that I studied independently for), so any chance that they'll forgive me for this? I know that my GPA and SAT I's are low, but can my SAT II's make up for that? I also go to a pretty tough school (ranked about 200 in Newsweek), and I know of about 5 people that graduated from my school that are attending Penn. Also, would applying ED help me become a probable Penn student?

Thank you very much!

Great Numbers, but theres one thing that EVERYONE will tell you: lopsided.

Great Math and Science (though not as good as me lol) but terrible showing in history and english and writing. 5 and 4s look good but those 3’s stick out. 650 SAT2? Come on SAT2s are easier and have a better curve than SAT1 and adcoms know this. Does this put u at like 50-60th percentile for US Hist SAT2?

English Lang 3? Come on I got a 690 as well on CR and got a 4. You can miss like half the test and get a 4.

With that said (sorry for the harshness but I assume u didnt post here just for a bunch of strangers to praise you) I think you have like an OK shot at SEAS. If you apply early for Penn it will help you I dont care what others may say. I’m apply to SEAS too so lets ross our fingers and not be too disappointed. Admissions are a crap shoot.

^ i don’t see sghod as being lopsided. i actually have a 650 CR score and i got a B in my AP lang class. a 3 on the test isn’t going to hurt you in admissions at all because AP grades aren’t for ADMISSION. they’re for PLACEMENT.

if i didn’t know any better, i’d say you’re trying to rip apart your competition…then again, perhaps i’m just trying to make myself feel better about being lopsided as well. stupid 650…

but i think you have a decent shot at both CAS and SEAS. SEAS would probably be better though since you are leaning towards the more sciency/mathy side.

and yes, ED will help you, but only if you’re really interested in penn, which i assume you are.

@ AP Classes
Yes, they’re placement, but there are discrepancies if a person gets a 5 on the AP Test and an A+ in the class, but a 500 on the CR portion of the SAT.
If the school is weak, you could say it was grade inflation.
If it’s a top 100 school, then you could assume that the student is just a horrible test taker.

ive been playing drums for a few years too!
howre you going to write that on your resume?
did you do nyssma and such?

Namaste, and good luck
