I'm a freshman and have been doing well with my grades (all As) until third marking period, in which i received three C+s. They were all were all 79s, one point away from being B-s, but it's still pretty bad. I've been aspiring to attend Princeton since I was ten, but I'm afraid that this has ruined my chances completely. If I get all As from now on, take AP classes and score well on my SATs, would I still have a chance? I have a lot of extra curricular activities, and three of them I can say I have a true passion for. I also volunteer.
I feel like those Cs are really going to kill me, so give it to me straight, does it seem like I have a chance or should I just start looking for another dream school? Be honest.
I'm African American, if that matters.

I’ve heard that Princeton doesn’t even consider freshman grades. If you have an explanation (e.g. illness, family problems) for those C+s, they probably won’t consider them.

I think you’ve still got a shot. Depends on what type of classes you got the grades in.

I have been worrying about the EXACT same thing! First semester was ok–I ended with a 3.67 unweighted. Then in the second semester, all (explicit) broke loose. My friends, I’m talking about physics. I got a C+ in that class as a final grade. That was the worst I’ve done my entire life and I felt SO ashamed.
I’ll be a sophomore soon and will be taking AP Micro. I also participate in debate, business team, newspaper, orchestra, piano, teaching piano, and extra French courses. My guidance counselor and I have worked out my schedule to senior year (stuffed with APs, holy crud) so I’ll work harder. Learn from my mistakes.
Hopefully, this will all blow over? Haha…I wish.
I do have an excuse for my slip-ups in the second semester though, so maybe?

Princeton does NOT look at your freshman grades! And no im not a naive dumb-ass, trust me I read about in multiple books and on the website, neither does Stanford fyi. Anyway being African-American definitley helps as they are underepresented in Universities(most anyway). And remeber they only see your FINAL grade of fall and spring semestert the progress reports are only showing you your progress they are not official. Try no to stress out so much, keep working hard!
