I was chosen as one of the two ambassadors of NSHSS from my state, however, I am not sure if this really means anything. Should I bother putting in on my common app? Could it help/hurt my chances at top colleges?
NSHSS does not receive any records from your high school. It’s an honor society that honors kids without knowing their grades.
NHS, on the other hand, requires high grades, service, and other attributes that colleges are looking for.
I would leave it off. In my opinion, it smacks of desperation to put SOMETHING down.
If you’re thinking of top colleges, there should be a whole lot of other things on your resume that you’ve earned, that show your academic ability and all your other attributes.
Good lord, no. It’s such a scam. I feel bad for the people who drive around with those bumper stickers on their car.
My younger kid had a 2.6 gpa her freshman year and was invited to the NSHSS. They just want your money.
That’s odd because they required grades or submitted ACT/ SAT scores.
Why would they require those things ?
They send letters of acceptance to kids with no input from their schools or College Board. Please believe me. It’s a scam. It’s NOT the National Honor Society.
Please don’t list it. It’s a huge scam.
^ I agree with the above posts. Students also receive a bunch of unsolicited letters from scammy science congresses, biomedical societies, future technologists society, etc.
Always search online and on these forums to make sure it’s a reputable organization/institution first. NSHSS is not. I think you would be better off not listing it, as it doesn’t do much to help your application and it might seem desperate by doing so.
Good luck
